Education and employment

Two lists complete your profile: Education, the degrees you hold, and Employment history, the posts you have held. Both are in the Profile group of the left-hand menu of the researcher portal, and both belong to you alone: nobody else can add to them or edit them.

They are what a team leader looks at when you ask to join a project, and what a platform reads when it decides whether you can be asked to assess someone else's proposal.

Adding a degree

  1. Open Education and choose New.
  2. Fill in the institution, the degree, the field and the years.
  3. Save with Create, or with Create another if you have several to enter one after the other.

The list is shown newest first. Each row can be edited or deleted from the buttons at the end of it. A deleted record is gone from your profile; it is not kept in a hidden copy.

Adding a post

Employment history works the same way:

  1. Open Employment history and choose New.
  2. Fill in the employer, the post held, the place and the period. A post you still hold is left without an end date.
  3. Save.

Importing them from ORCID

If your degrees and posts are already published on your ORCID record, you can have them copied over instead of typing them again. This only works once you have ticked, on your profile, the box:

I authorise the import of my public ORCID data

Then:

  1. Make sure the ORCID identifier on your profile is the right one.
  2. Ask for the import from your profile.
  3. Only what is public on orcid.org is read. Anything you have kept private there is not fetched and cannot be.

The import adds records, it does not replace what you wrote: after it, go through the two lists and delete anything that came over twice or that is out of date. What was imported is yours from that moment on — you edit it and delete it like anything else.

Withdrawing the authorisation stops any further import. It does not empty the lists: the records that were already copied stay until you delete them yourself.

Keeping them up to date

The portal never corrects these two lists on its own, and no automatic check is run against a third party. A degree obtained, a post left, an employer that changed name: it is up to you to say so. A proposal is assessed on what your profile says at the moment it is submitted.
